September 20, 2025 -- My friend and reknowned pundit Ann Farrell (of whom I have written previously) offers -- as always -- wise commentary on the sorry state of the healthcare policies of our federal government, writing in her usual terse style:

I see promise but same hype and overreach as other HIT initiatives. If you read the MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) report findings fiasco you'll see the downside of AI. [Here is a description of the course she teaches on the topic of MAHA.]

As a university Healthcare (HC) instructor, I've long bemoaned the woeful state of US health and HC system. 100% agree with MAHA Report's stated drivers of chronic illnesses, goals, guiding principles and call for radical reform.

DOGE HHS cuts and brain drain and RFK Jr. (not an MD) [nor an RN!] as vocal vaccine critic are concerns. MAHA Report cites multiple research projects that don't exist; "formatting errors" blamed. AI guru Etzioni cites proof report was AI-generated (not "evidence based"), calling it "shoddy work - we can do better".

US held hostage by profit-driven pharma and corporations. Getting their critical support for MAHA goals will be a formidable task.

Budget Bill proposes huge cuts to needed HC and food benefits for millions. Massive corporate-friendly Executive Order deregulations relax health, food and worker safety rules: "HHS staffing cuts suspended safety and quality checks". These actions clearly contradict MAHA goal to make Americans healthier. Time will tell the impact of report.

Her predictions are coming true. We must call out these crackpots! Go Ann!
