Cutting

October 1, 2014 -- I recently read and thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Abraham Verghese's 2009 bestseller Cutting for Stone. "Cutting", of course, is the slang surgeons use to describe their work.

Ethiopian-born and today practising at Stanford, Verghese shares much wisdom. For example, he recites surgery's Eleventh Commandment:

Thou shalt not operate on the day of a patient's death.
Much to think about. Much that's profound.
