veteran Socialized
medicine?
Here?

August 14, 2026 -- What do you think of when you hear the words socialized medicine?

If you're like most Americans, you think:

  • Medical decisions made by bean counters, and unaccountable bureaucrats
  • Bureaucracy
  • Paperwork and red tape
  • Long waits for basic services
  • No responsibility for outcomes
  • Patients told where, when, and how to get care

Fortunately, our system is not like that. Or is it? Wait a minute. Isn’t that what we have now?

We spend by far more per person on health care than other countries yet our outcomes are often worse. And our "system" is cruel: the majority of personal bankruptcies are medical. That doesn't happen elsewhere.

To quote Dr. Dan Morhaim, "There is an avalanche of money in our healthcare system, and there are many pigs at the trough, all busily working to suck their portion out of this cash flow. Greed is now the primary organizing principle of American healthcare, and service for us is secondary, if considered at all." Indeed, the things we associate with socialized medicine are all things we already have. Here is Dr. Morhaim: Socialized Medicine: What is it, Really?

Indeed, we already have two successful examples of widely used socialized medicine systems in the US: Medicare and the Veteran's Administration. We can do this. We're already doing it for our elders and for our military. Now let's do it for everyone!
