Fluoride?

November 26, 2024 -- I have railed about the crackpot RFK and his disdain for science, especially vaccinations that have spared untold suffering and lives in the millions. Then there is fluoridation of municipal water supplies.

Until recently in favor of this policy, I am learning that evidence is mounting that water fluoridation may not be entirely safe (Harvard Public Health).

The argument in favor, of course, is well-documented reductions in tooth decay in communities with fluoridated water supplies. Also well understood is that in large doses, fluoride is toxic. The dose is the poison. In the USA, 0.7 mg/L is the standard. Fluoridation above 1.5 mg/L is correlated with lower IQ in children. And there is also the fact that even without fluoridation, countries have seen substantial reductions in the rate of cavities, likely due to widespread use of fluoride-containing toothpastes.

Perhaps fluoridation is no longer needed. Even so, crackpots are still crackpots.
